Britain finished their World Championships campaign after the womens 4x400m relay team won bronze.
The quartet of Laviai Nielsen, Jodie Williams, Emily Diamond and Zoey Clark finished fourth at the final but were moved up to third after Jamaicas disqualification.
The mens team failed to complete their race after a changeover mistake between Rabah Yousif and Toby Harries.
As they finished high in the buffet table with 14 golds the USA won the race.
We conducted off our socks now, each one people , Diamond told BBC Sport. We desired that medal so, so badly.
That is the fastest weve run in several years, it surpasses the Olympics, and that I think we can be pleased with ourselves.
The choice to penalise Jamaica for an issue over placement at the changeover area was welcome news because the three won at Helsinki 2005, for Britain, who were put to get their lowest medal complete.
Golds for Dina-Asher Smith from the heptathlon in the Katarina and 200m Johnson-Thompson meant Britain paired their tally and then ended sixth in the table.
