Lions vs. Eagles: NFL Week 3 Picks & Game Predictions
Thanks to a rash of injuries, the Philadelphia Eagles Seem like the NFL pick for Sunday’s Match against the visiting Detroit Lions.
The Detroit Lions (1-0-1 SU, 1-1 ATS) are undefeated during the first two games of the season. That’s very good, right? Well, the Lions looked just like a poor staff coming into 2019, also according to the DVOA stats at Football Outsidersthey are what we believed they were: No. 14 overall in efficiency.
That is only four places behind the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS), mind you. And with most of the injuries Philadelphia have suffered, we are going to put the Lions within our NFL picks for Sunday’s matchup (1:00 p.m. ET, FOX). Too bad they are already down from +8 in the open to +6.5 at the time, however. Timing is not everything.
This might have been one of the traces in the Week 3 NFL likelihood board if it had not been for those harms. Here’s what the projections have to say:
FiveThirtyEight: Philadelphia –6
Jeff Sagarin: Detroit –0.28, 44.88 total
Wait, what? Jeff Sagarin’s figures in The USA Today seem to be around the map for this specific contest — his Rating’re being used by us here, however for the most part, his projections such as the Lions to win. That does talk to the problems Philadelphia has experienced on protection, issues we saw in last week’s 24-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons (+1 at home).
Things will probably get worse. DT Timmy Jernigan struck his foot in Atlanta, one week a Lisfranc injury was endured by DT Malik Jackson and has been lost for the year, after. And the offense is in trouble: whilst WR Alshon Jeffery and TE Dallas Goedert are iffy at best for Sunday with crab breeds WR DeSean Jackson is two weeks with a stomach strain.
